Attitude Adjustment

Today, we're going to take a look into Ephesians and see what a Christlike attitude looks like. This is an inspiring but also challenging journey. Developing Christlike attitudes, as encouraged in Ephesians 2:5, involves transforming our mental and emotional outlooks. Our attitudes shape how we interact with the world and can yield positive or negative fruits. Importantly, they can be transformed to reflect our deepest convictions, ambitions, and values. Ephesians 4:20-5:1 reminds us that we are no longer who we used to be, and we are called to conform our attitudes to those of Christ. This transformation is a daily battle and a lifelong commitment, as highlighted in 1 Peter 4:1-13.

Building Christlike attitudes begins with solid life convictions. This involves a daily process of connecting with God through prayer and reflection. Developing a Christian worldview requires consistently reading, studying, memorizing, meditating on, and applying God's Word, as James 1:22 advises. Aligning our thoughts with Jesus ensures our actions will naturally follow suit. Romans 12:1-3 emphasizes living a life of sacrifice and humility, key aspects of transformation and Christlikeness. This means rejecting worldly influences, immersing ourselves in God's Word, and embracing humility.

Philippians 2:5-11 describes Christ's attitudes, providing a clear model for us. Despite His divine nature, Christ exemplified ultimate humility by becoming a servant and accepting death on the cross. This passage teaches that adopting such humility leads to exaltation by God. Andrew Murray noted that humility is the foundation for all virtues. Romans 12:3 advises us to think of ourselves with sober judgment, avoiding the pride that distorts our self-perception.

Pride, which opposes God's view of us, can lead to destructive outcomes. Historical figures like Hitler and Stalin, and even contemporary leaders who fell from grace, illustrate the consequences of unchecked pride. Scriptures such as James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 warn that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride disrupts our relationships with God and others, hindering the abundant life Jesus promised and our ability to fulfill our divine purpose.

To cultivate Christlike attitudes, we must nurture life convictions through daily spiritual practices and develop a Christian worldview by engaging deeply with Scripture. Embracing humility is crucial, aligning our self-view with God's perspective. By doing so, we reflect Christ's teachings and glorify God.

This transformation is a continuous journey requiring persistent effort and reliance on God's grace. Each day, as we strive to adopt Christ's attitudes, we move closer to living a life that reflects His love, humility, and sacrifice. By thinking like Jesus, we will act like Jesus, embodying the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

In summary, developing Christlike attitudes involves daily commitment, immersion in God's Word, and humility. These practices transform our outlook, enabling us to live lives that reflect Christ's example and bring glory to God. This journey is ongoing, but with dedication and God's grace, we can adopt the attitudes of Christ, influencing our lives and those around us positively.
