PEACE IN THE NOISE: Learning to Be Still

Published on 24 June 2026 at 13:07

For many of us, slowing down feels unnatural.

We live in a world that constantly tells us to keep moving.
Keep working.
Keep scrolling.
Keep achieving.
Keep chasing the next thing.

Busyness has almost become a badge of honor in our culture. If we’re always busy, we feel productive. Important. Successful.

But somewhere along the way, many of us have forgotten how to simply be still.

Not just physically still…
but spiritually still.

To sit quietly before God.
To slow our thoughts.
To breathe.
To listen.
To rest in His presence.

The truth is, many of us fill every quiet moment with noise.

We wake up and immediately grab our phones.
We turn on the TV in the background.
We scroll social media while eating.
We constantly consume information, entertainment, opinions, and distractions.

And eventually our hearts become restless.

That’s one reason why Psalm 46:10 is so powerful:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness is difficult because it forces us to stop trying to control everything.

When life gets loud, many of us respond by trying to work harder, fix everything ourselves, or distract ourselves from what we’re feeling.

But God often meets us in the quiet moments we try to avoid.

Throughout this study, we’ve talked about noise, fear, anxiety, storms, weariness, and learning to trust God. And maybe one of the biggest lessons in all of this is realizing that peace rarely happens by accident.

We have to intentionally make space for God.

Not because God moves away from us…
but because life becomes so loud that we stop paying attention to Him.

Jesus regularly stepped away from the crowds to pray and spend time with the Father. If the Son of God needed intentional quiet time with the Father, how much more do we?

Stillness does not mean life suddenly becomes easy.
The responsibilities will still exist.
The schedules will still be full.
The challenges will still come.

But creating daily space for God changes how we walk through those things.

Even a few intentional moments with God can begin reshaping the condition of our hearts.

Maybe that means opening your Bible before opening social media.
Maybe it means praying during your drive to work.
Maybe it means sitting quietly with God before the house wakes up.
Maybe it means turning off the noise for a little while and simply listening.

Small moments of stillness matter.

Because peace is not found in escaping life.
Peace is found in walking closely with God through it.

And maybe that’s the invitation God has been giving you throughout this entire study:

Slow down.
Come close.
Be still.
And remember that He is God.
