Scripture Focus
Take a few minutes to read these passages slowly before continuing. If possible, read them directly from your Bible and ask God to speak to you through His Word.
John 1:1–14 & Colossians 1:15–20
At the center of our faith is a person: Jesus Christ.
When we talk about Christianity, we aren’t talking about a philosophy, a moral code, or a list of religious practices. Christianity is built on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Everything in our faith points to Him.
From the beginning of Scripture to the end, the story of the Bible leads us to Jesus. He is not just an important figure in the Christian faith—He is the foundation of it.
In John 1, we’re given a powerful description of who Jesus truly is:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
John tells us that Jesus, called “the Word,” existed before creation itself. He was with God, and He was God. Through Him all things were made, and apart from Him nothing was created.
Then John makes an incredible statement in verse 14:
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”
This is the heart of the Gospel. God didn’t remain distant. He stepped into our world. Jesus came to live among us, to reveal God’s heart, and ultimately to rescue us from sin.
The Apostle Paul echoes this truth in Colossians 1 when he describes Jesus as:

The image of the invisible God

The firstborn over all creation

The One through whom all things were created
-
The One in whom all things hold together
Paul goes even further and reminds us that through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, God was reconciling all things to Himself.
In other words, Jesus is not just a teacher or a prophet.
He is God in the flesh, the Savior of the world, and the One who makes a relationship with God possible.
Why This Matters
Understanding who Jesus is changes everything.
If Jesus were only a wise teacher, we might admire Him.
If He were only a moral example, we might try to imitate Him.
But Scripture tells us something far greater:
Jesus is Lord, Creator, and Redeemer.
That means our faith isn’t built on human wisdom or religious effort—it’s built on the person and work of Christ.
Because of Jesus:

Our sins can be forgiven

Our relationship with God can be restored
-
Our lives can be made new
He is the center of our faith, the foundation of our hope, and the reason we can live with confidence and purpose.
Practical Application
This week, take time to focus your heart and mind on Jesus.

Spend time reading the Scripture passages above.
Pay attention to what they reveal about who Jesus is. -
Reflect on what Jesus has done for you.
His life, His sacrifice, and His resurrection make new life possible. -
Let your prayers center on Christ.
Thank Him for His love, His sacrifice, and His presence in your life. -
Ask yourself a simple question:
Is Jesus truly at the center of my life, or just part of it?
