Let's be honest, life can feel heavy sometimes.
For some people, the storm is financial stress. Bills keep piling up, groceries cost more than ever, and you wonder how everything is going to work out.
For others, it’s stress at work—or the stress of trying to find work. Sending applications, waiting for phone calls, wondering what comes next.
Some are walking through struggles in their marriage. Conversations feel distant. Communication feels strained. The relationship that once felt strong now feels fragile.
Others are carrying the weight of raising kids in a world that feels increasingly confusing and chaotic. You want to protect them. Guide them. Teach them to follow God. But honestly, sometimes it feels overwhelming.
And then there are the health concerns. The unexpected diagnoses. The anxiety every time another virus or crisis seems to dominate the headlines. The fear of the unknown.
Storms come in many forms.
And if we’re honest, sometimes we assume peace only comes when the storm finally ends.
But Scripture teaches something powerful: Biblical peace is not the absence of storms. It is the presence of Jesus in the middle of them.
In Mark 4, Jesus and the disciples were crossing the sea when a violent storm suddenly arose. The wind was raging, the waves were crashing into the boat, and the disciples were terrified. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep.
Mark 4:38 says:
“But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’”
That question feels familiar sometimes, doesn’t it?
“God, do You even see what I’m going through?”
“Do You care about this situation?”
“Why does it feel like You’re silent while my world feels out of control?”
The disciples panicked because they focused on the size of the storm instead of the One who was in the boat with them.
And honestly, we do the same thing. We stare at the problem, the stress, the fear, the uncertainty, and eventually anxiety becomes louder than faith. But then Jesus stood up and spoke three simple words: “Peace! Be still!”
And instantly the wind stopped and the sea became calm.
Notice something important: Jesus did not keep the storm from happening, but He was fully present in the middle of it.
Sometimes God calms the storm around us, and sometimes He calms the heart inside of us while the storm continues. Either way, His presence changes everything.
Jesus never promised His followers a storm-free life. In fact, Scripture makes it clear that difficult seasons will come. But He did promise that we would never face those storms alone.
Isaiah 41:10 says:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God…”
That means even when life feels uncertain…God is still with you.
Even when anxiety rises…God is still faithful.
Even when you don’t know what tomorrow holds…Jesus is still in the boat.
Real peace is not found in perfect circumstances. Real peace is found in trusting the Savior who remains steady in the middle of every storm.
