PEACE IN THE NOISE: Anxiety vs Trust

Anxiety is something many of us wrestle with.

Some people carry it quietly, while others feel it constantly.

It shows up in different ways.

Overthinking.
Sleepless nights.
Fear about the future.
Constant worry.
The pressure to hold everything together.
The feeling that if you stop moving for even a moment, everything might fall apart.

And honestly, our world doesn’t make it any easier.

There’s pressure to succeed.
Pressure to provide.
Pressure to look like you have your life together.
Pressure to be a perfect parent, spouse, employee, friend, or Christian.

You scroll social media and it feels like everyone else has life figured out while you’re sitting there trying to survive the week.

Anxiety has become so common that many people just assume it’s normal to constantly live overwhelmed.

But God never intended for us to carry every burden alone.

In Philippians 4, Paul writes these words:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” — Philippians 4:6

If we’re honest, that verse can feel easier to read than to actually live out.

Because when anxiety hits, it’s not always as simple as saying, “Okay, I’ll stop worrying now.”

Anxiety is real.
The struggles are real.
The fears can feel overwhelming.

But notice what Paul says.

He doesn’t simply say: “Stop being anxious.”

He tells us where to bring our anxiety. “To God.”

Prayer is not pretending problems don’t exist.
Prayer is bringing those problems to the One who is bigger than them.

God never asked you to carry the weight of the entire world on your shoulders.

Sometimes we act like everything depends on us.
Our future.
Our family.
Our finances.
Our health.
Our security.

But trust begins when we finally admit: “I cannot control everything… but God is still faithful.”

That’s difficult for many of us because anxiety often grows from our need to control outcomes we cannot guarantee.

We want certainty.
Clear answers.
Immediate solutions.

But faith often means trusting God one step at a time.

And here’s something important:
Trust is not the absence of fear.
Trust is choosing to bring your fear to God instead of letting fear control you.

Paul continues in Philippians 4:7:

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Did you catch that?

God’s peace doesn’t always make sense.

Sometimes circumstances are still difficult.
The bills still exist.
The diagnosis hasn’t changed.
The future still feels uncertain.

Yet somehow, God gives peace in the middle of it.

Not because everything around us is calm…
but because God is present with us in the middle of the struggle.

And maybe today, instead of carrying anxiety alone, God is inviting you to release some of that weight to Him.

Not once.
Not perfectly.
But daily.

One prayer at a time.
One moment of trust at a time.
One surrendered burden at a time.

Because peace grows where trust in God begins.
